ED WOOD (Burton, 1994): Spooky Underlighting

ED WOOD is probably Tim Burton's most beautifully photographed film. And fitting the B-movie mood of both Edward D. Wood's films and life, cinematographer Stefan Czapsky (EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, 1990) jumps at the opportunities to light the actors from underneath like in a vintage Universal horror film.

Among all the glorious lighting concepts and effects in ED WOOD, the underlighting of Bela Lugosi (played by Martin Landau, bottom) is my personal favorite.
