L'ANNÉE DERNIÈRE À MARIENBAD (Resnais, 1961): Repetitions

L'ANNÉE DERNIÈRE À MARIENBAD is one of the most iconic films of the "nouvelle vague rive gauche" and its serial rather than dramatic construction remains as enigmatic as it probably was in 1961. Its whole premise is practically based on repetitions. There are repeated conversations throughout, repeated travellings, its plot is about a supposed affair that happened under similar circumstances the year before und even within the black and white widescreen frames there are instances of repetitions.

L'ANNÉE DERNIÈRE À MARIENBAD ist einer der ikonischsten Filme der "Nouvelle Vague Rive Gauche" und seine eher serielle als dramaturgische Konstruktion wirkt heute wohl noch genauso enigmatisch wie bei der Premiere. Resnais' Film basiert praktisch ausschliesslich auf Wiederholungen. Da gibt es wiederholte Konversationen, wiederholte Kamerafahrten, der Plot dreht sich um eine angebliche Affäre genau ein Jahr zuvor und sogar innerhalb der schwarzweissen Breitwandbilder sind Wiederholungen zu erkennen.
