MADAME DE... (Ophüls, 1953): The prop that holds it all together

Max Ophüls's MADAME DE... is full of elegant camera moves and hilarious running gags to balance the melodrama. But most of all, it is one of those stories which basically revolve around a prop: in this case a pair of diamond earrings. In fact, the English distributor even expanded the title to THE EARRINGS OF MADAME DE....
