L'ODEUR DE LA PAPAYE VERTE (Tran, 1993): Animal sounds

Tran Anh Hung's THE SCENT OF GREEN PAPAYA is a masterpiece of sensual storytelling. Gestures, colors and traditional as well as impressionistic music convey a tender story about a servant girl in 1951 and 1961 Saigon. The acoustic atmosphere is especially dense with sounds of bells, drums and cricket sounds. Insects and amphibians are depicted both as a natural part of home and as meticulously scrutinized study objects in close-up. Their many sounds feel very realistic within a sound track that includes many an original image-sound-connection.

Tran Anh Hungs DER DUFT DER GRÜNEN PAPAYA ist ein Meisterwerk sinnlicher Erzählkunst. Gesten, Farben und traditionelle wie impressionistische Musik vermitteln die zarte Geschichte eines Saigoner Hausmädchens in den Jahren 1951 und 1961. Die akustische Atmosphäre ist reich an Glocken, Gebetstrommeln und Grillengeräuschen. Insekten und Amphibien werden sowohl beiläufig als Alltagsbestandteil als auch als genau untersuchte Studienobjekte in Nahaufnahme gezeigt. Ihre Geräusche wirken sehr realistisch, während die Geräuschespur an anderen Stellen durchaus originelle Bild-Geräusch-Kombinationen enthält.
